The bloc’s foreign policy chief hit out at voices within Mr Trump’s inner circle “saying the European Union is not necessarily a good idea”.
It comes after Eurocrats branded Mr Trump as a leading global threat to the union after his meteoric rise to the presidency.
From The Express
Federica Mogherini spoke out against resistance within President Trump’s government during a two day diplomatic trip to Washington.
Mrs Mogherini said: “It’s not for me or another European to interfere with domestic political choices or decisions in the US.
“The same goes with Europe – no interference.
“Maybe America first means also that you have to deal with America first.”
Trump has long derided the EU and expects other nations to follow Britain’s example and leave the crumbling union.
Ted Malloch, tipped to be Mr Trump’s EU envoy, has already criticised the union for “blatant anti-Americanism”.
Mr Malloch said: “President Trump believes that dealing bilaterally with different European countries is in US interests, that we could have a stronger relationship with the countries individually.
“The other thing about the EU that I think is more problematic is its blatant anti-Americanism.”
It comes as the struggling union fears a new alliance between Russia and the US might destabilise their place in the world.
Mr Mallock added: “He believes a more positive relationship with Russia is possible.
“And that’s alarming to some people including some friends in the EU or some other governments in Europe.”
