The greatest warship ever built!
DONALD Trump delivered an ominous message to US enemies today as he unveiled the world’s biggest warship into the US Navy amid increasing global tensions over territorial waters.
The USS Gerald R. Ford, named in honour of the 38th US President, is the first of a new generation of supercarriers that took 12 years to build and will carry more aircraft and weapons than ever before.
The $13billion vessel is the world’s most powerful aircraft carrier and at 1,100 feet, is roughly the same size as three football pitches.
President Trump Brings The House Down w/ A Powerful Speech @ USS Gerald R. Ford Commissioning
The Express reports,
President Trump attended the Commissioning Ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, today where the aircraft carrier was officially welcomed into the US Navy.
The US President thanked all those who helped design and build the enormous vessel, telling them: “Your incredible work of art becomes the pride of the US Navy and symbol of American pride and prestige no matter where in the world you go.
American steel and American hands have constructed a 100,000 tonne message to the world – America’s might is second to none.”
“When it comes to battle we don’t want a fair fight, — we demand victory and we will have total victory, believe me.”
After recalling President Ford’s career in the Navy, he said: “He saw a lot of action in the Pacific war… With this ship we honour him with his lifetime of selfless and distinguished service.”
“If he could see this ship today, he’d see his legacy of service carried on by each and every one of you.”
Mr Trump went on to attack his predecessors’ military funding.
He said: “You are fulling your duty to this nation and now it is our job of the government to fulfil its duty to you.
“It’s been a very, very bad period of time for our military, that is why were reached a deal to secure additional $20billion for defence this year and it’s going up and why I ask Congress for another $54billion for next year.
“Now we need congress to do its job and pass the budget that provides for higher stable and predictable funding levels for our military needs that our fighting men and women deserve, and you will get, believe me.”
The Navy last commissioned a top aircraft carrier in 1975, a ceremony in Norfolk presided over by President Ford himself.
The sailors, many of whom have worked on the ship over the last few years, are excited for the carrier to join the US fleet.
Petty Officer 1st Class Jeremy Stoecklein said: “We’ve watched it for the last four years come to life. This is an extremely exciting moment, not just for us but for the whole crew.”
Chief Petty Officer Christine Tyler added: “We’ve been waiting for this day to come.”
The USS Gerald R. Ford’s commissioning comes at a time of increasing naval hostilities across the globe as nations fight for rights to territorial waters.
Yesterday, a Chinese spy ship was detected near the Australian coast – close to where US, New Zealand and Australian militaries are conducting war games exercises.
According to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), The Chinese People’s Liberation Army-Navy Type 815 Dongdiao-class auxiliary general intelligence (AGI) vessel was operating off the northeast coast during the Talisman Sabre manoeuvres.
The vessel is fitted with advanced communications systems designed to eavesdrop on other militaries.
