LifeZette Editor-in-Chief Laura Ingraham blasted actress Meryl Streep for her “ironic” rant against President-Elect Donald Trump’s mockery of a disabled New York Times reporter “as if no one in Hollywood in positions of power mock, ridicule, or take advantage of people” during an appearance Monday on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Ingraham lamented the fact that Streep felt the need to politicize the Golden Globes during her acceptance speech for a lifetime achievement award Sunday evening. Instead of simply to expressing her gratitude for her years in Hollywood, Streep chose to use the moment to hammer Trump.
“It’s ironic that she talked about Trump and the disabled reporter as if no one in Hollywood in positions of power mock, ridicule, or take advantage of people in lower economic standing than they do,” Ingraham told host Tucker Carlson.
“Anyone who knows anyone who has been in a casting call, especially with some of the top directors in Hollywood, there can be humiliation, there can be sexual harassment, all sorts of things happen in the higher echelons of power in the entertainment industry which I’m sure top actresses like Meryl Streep know a lot about,” Ingraham said, adding that “it’s not that Hollywood has some standing to look down on the rest of America.”
Noting that there has been “a lot of gnashing of teeth in Hollywood and among other progressive elites” since Trump defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Ingraham said the Hollywood elites feel a “deep loathing” for both the president-elect and the Americans who supported him.
“It’s the deep loathing … the guilt that I have to be part of this club where we talk to Middle America in this very mocking tone,” Ingraham said of the elites, adding that if someone voted for Trump, Hollywood immediately writes them off as “implicitly biased racially, against anyone who is … an immigrant, you’re against anyone who is of a different sexual persuasion.”
“It is so insulting, and the most monolithic, intolerant group in America, among them, is Hollywood,” Ingraham concluded.
If a conservative actor or actress had stood up and criticized President Obama — or worse, defended their vote for Trump, they would have been eviscerated, not encored, Ingraham said.
