Fox News anchor Shepard Smith called the “deception” about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer “mind-boggling” as more details became public Friday.
From Washington Examiner
“My grandmother used to say, ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive,'” Smith told host Chris Wallace. “The deception, Chris, is mind-boggling, and there are still people out there who think we’re making it up, and one day they’re going to realize that we’re not and look around and go, ‘Where are we? And why are we getting told all these lies?'”
“I don’t know what to say,” Wallace said in response. “I think there’s a lot of truth to everything that you’ve said.”
Multiple revelations about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya emerged Friday morning, starting with reports about a fifth person, identified as a Russian-American lobbyist, who was also present with Trump’s son, then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, and son-in-law and now White House adviser Jared Kushner. By Friday afternoon, other reporting said the number of attendees was up to eight people.
Earlier in the week, Donald Trump Jr. downplayed the significance of the meeting to Fox’s Sean Hannity, saying it “went nowhere” and that he didn’t mention it to his father because “there was nothing to tell.”
“If there’s nothing there — and that’s what they tell us — they tell us there’s nothing to this, that nothing came of it, it’s a nothing burger, there was nothing memorable, didn’t write it down, didn’t tell you about it, because it wasn’t anything so I didn’t even remember it with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower. If all of that, why all these lies? Why is it lie after lie after lie? If you’re clean, come on clean.”
