Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is refusing to take anything “off the table” in terms of dealing with North Korea — and said Friday the US may help nuclearize other countries in the region to deter the rogue state.
“Nothing has been taken off the table,” Tillerson told Fox News in an interview in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. “We’re exchanging views.”
The NYPost reports,
At a press availability in Seoul, South Korea, Tillerson warned that US patience with North Korea is over.
“Let me be very clear: The policy of strategic patience has ended,” the secretary of state said, standing next to his South Korean counterpart, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.
“If they elevate the threat of their weapons program to a level we believe requires action, that option is on the table,” Tillserson added.
Tillerson made the comments on his first visit to the region.
President Trump later tweeted that North Korea has been taking advantage of the US for years, while taking a shot at China.
“North Korea is behaving very badly. They have been ‘playing’ the United States for years. China has done little to help!” Trump said on Twitter.
Tillerson is due to visit China on Saturday and Sunday to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.
